Chester’s 50 Sustainable Palm Oil Businesses.
In recent years, the issues surrounding palm oils have become far more prominent in the media, from the deforestation of the beautiful rainforests to the endangerment of rare animal’s habitats. The widespread use of palm oil in everyday items from food to cleaning products means a vast amount of space is dedicated to harvesting this miracle chemical.

One distressing issue that has received widespread media coverage in recent years is the damage irresponsible palm oil harvesting brings to the wild orangutan population. The plight of the orangutans was a major factor in Chester Zoo’s dedicated push to encourage Chester businesses to ditch dangerously sourced palm oil in favour of sustainable supplies.
With the zoo at the helm, Chester has jumped behind this noble cause and a large number of prominent businesses have pledged to join the sustainable push. 50 local businesses have put their names down, making this the biggest single city push to move to sustainable oils and has also made Chester the first recipient of the status of Sustainable Palm Oil City in the world.

Chester’s MP, Chris Matheson, who has been supporting the project since its conception, told the BBC “This is fabulous news for the zoo, fabulous news for Chester and fabulous news for the planet.”
We would like to commend and celebrate every one of the 50 local businesses who have joined in the campaign. Take a moment to have a look at these forward-thinking companies, names and links to their websites below;
We hope that more Chester businesses will follow the example of the first 50.
